My first time was awkward as awkward gets. I didn’t really know what I was doing, and my boyfriend wasn’t (and isn’t) a virgin. I kind of just took off all my clothes and let him do his thing–I didn’t think to ensue foreplay, because it was my first time and our first time together and I was nervous and a mess and self-conscious. He put the condom on, and we were awkward trying to get things in the right places while he was also trying to convince me it wasn’t going to hurt so bad, but it did anyway. I flinched and squirmed but let things just happen the way they would, without forcing them and without him forcing me.
There was no magic. Just awkwardness and a feeling like I would never do something like that again.
