When I was much younger, before all the fuss about gay issues, I can tell you that homosexuality was alive and well in many friendships. While it may have been a subject that no one talked about as such, it was quite widely and regularly practiced. Maybe more between women, but I’m sure to a considerable degree among the men, as well.
Diane, a friend of mine, who was the same age, and I, both had young executive husbands who spend a lot of time at work, on the golf course, and having poker nights. Like lots of wives, we had our own interest and friendships to occupy ourselves with, and like lots of suburban wives that included sexual fun between the “girls.” Diane and I often enjoyed the pleasure of being lovers as friends, and we were regularly in the sack together when we had a chance. And all without labeling ourselves as lesbians. I knew of many young and older wives that found their female relationships quite satisfying in and out of the bedroom. It was not for the purpose of cheating on our husbands by any means, but simply something that women could enjoy between themselves.
I think today that so many young people are to controlled by the nedd to label everything that they miss out on the simple pleasures that we could enjoy in my day without all of the fuss and bother that they seem to go through now. I truly think this is such a shame that they put such pressure on themselves. Back then we just had a good time and forgot all of the unnecessary worry. My message is to do the same today and just get on with it!
